The Árpád Memorial in Ópusztaszer
The National Historical Memorial Park of Ópusztaszer is a national memorial place, a museum exhibition place and open-air folk collection of national significance. It is located 25 kms northwest of Szeged. The Árpád Memorial was erected on the occasion of the 1896 millennial festivities, and ever since, it is a focal point of yearly celebrations held in memory of the nomadic Hungarians. Following the Conquest in the year 896 under Chief Árpád, the Hungarians left behind their nomadic lifestyle. The Hungarians began to change and turn towards the nations and culture of Western Christendom.
