Nine-Hole Bridge in Hortobágy

Nine-Hole Bridge in Hortobágy

The Nine-Hole Bridge, rebuilt in 1833 and spanning the marshy Hortobágy River, is the longest stone bridge in the country. Hortobagy is a part of Alföld (Hungary’s Great Plain) in eastern Hungary, near Debrecen. It was designated as a national park in 1973, and elected among the World Heritage sites in 1999. The Hortobagy is Hungary’s largest protected area, and one of the biggest grassland that remained in Central Europe.
