Fortified Church of Aita Mare
Aita Mare (Hungarian: Nagyajta) is a commune in Covasna County, Romania. The settlement’s first Romanesque church was mentioned in 1332, on the foundations of which the Gothic church was built in the 15th century. The hall church with a nave and a polygonal choir was surrounded by curtain walls soon after its construction. During the 16th century, the development of military science and firearms made it necessary to modernise the fortification, which was achieved by building Italian-type bastions.
