Esterházy Castle – Fertőd
Eszterhàza – today, this settlement is known unser the name of Fertőd – served as a principal home of the wealthy and influential Hungarian house of Esterházy. The great aristocrat and philanthropist Miklós Esterházy „the Magnificent” decided on building the “Hungarian Versailles” after a trip to France and also took part in the design. In addition to the 126 rooms in the main palace, the estate grounds include an opera house, a marionette theater, stables, detached servant quarters, and gardens.
