The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Kalocsa

The history of the archdiocese of Kalocsa is closely interwoven with that of Hungary. The archdiocese was founded by St. Stephen of Hungary in 1010, and its first archbishop was Astrik, who delivered St. Stephen’s crown from Pope Sylvester II. The cathedral is a top religious attraction in Kalocsa and in the medieval era was one of the two Archdiocese of the Kingdom of Hungary. With the Great Mongol invasion in 1241 was completely devastated. The renovation of the Cathedral of Kalocsa began in the second half of the thirteenth century, after which played an important role in the spread of Christianity.
