Kinizsi Castle of Nagyvázsony

Kinizsi Castle of Nagyvázsony

The castle was donated to Pál Kinizsi by King Matthias. He earned the estate around Nagyvázsony due to his bravery and victory at the Battle of Breadfield in Transylvania against the Ottoman army. According to Hungarian folklore Kinizsi served wine to King Matthias on a millstone, then was hired to the royal army. Today, the immaculately restored fortress contains a castle museum of architectural finds on the site, as well as furniture and weapons from the Middle Ages. There is also an exhibition of life-sized models of the Hungarian kings.
